Swimming Pool Changing Area Refurbishment

Objective

Included in this remit was to find the best, most appropriate and economical solution for refreshing the faded doors, cubicles, panelling and surfaces within the changing room area. Shetland Recreational Trust wanted to use their time during 2020 positively to perform necessary maintenance and refurbishment on the Lerwick swimming pool and surrounding internal area.

We completed a site survey which included testing various materials to see what would both adhere to the finely textured panels but also withstand continuous high temperatures, moisture and continuous usage.

Process

Select and approve suitable substrate from testing. Discuss client’s desired outcomes and create design for the first phase of the works to complement the existing look and feel of the pool surroundings whilst providing a fresh, appealing new visual aspect. The SRT team chose our underwater graphic option to which we added overlaid logos for the end panels of the changing rooms to make their branding and logo stand out.

We also cut bespoke shaped aluminium composite to create a “wave crest wall” to provide extra privacy for users of the toddlers’ swimming pool. This also doubled up as a focal point for people entering the pool area.

Over a short period of time, three members of our studio team installed 250+ metres of material covering the entire face of every unit within the changing area, including refreshing a desk and covering several other doors in the area.

Result

We had a large renovation project that required planning and advice from a company with excellent graphic design capabilities that could also meet our requested installation deadlines. The Studio team certainly met both those criteria and we went on to use them for other smaller print projects and continue to have a great working relationship with their whole team.
