One of the three local publications to Shetland that we produced for the Christmas 2019 market hit the shelves on schedule and proved to be very popular. The PUR bound paperback was printed in full colour throughout and is an entertaining account from the author (and retired boatman/wildlife guide) of his quarter century’s voyages around Noss and Bressay, just two of Shetland’s hundreds of islands.

Pop this one on your list if you have an interest in Shetland, wildlife, sealife or birdlife and of course tales from the sea!!

Large paginations are no problem for us to produce and this 632pp, casebound book is a tribute to the many thousands of Shetlanders who went to the whaling in the Arctic during Shetland’s long involvement in what was then called the Greenland whaling trade.

Our cover design was very well received and producing the book whilst being in continuous contact with the author allowed us to provide advice and technical information to ensure the final product met their expectations.

If you have a book of local interest to Shetland that you’d like to publish, our publications manager would be happy to discuss the possibilities with you. Contact Charlotte Black for an initial discussion – c.black@shetlandtimes.co.uk

This PUR bound paperback book includes a 16 page colour section and was recently printed using our customer’s supplied PDF files.

It is part of the Shetland Rural Islands Maritime Heritage Asset Atlas Project (SRIMHAA) funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The aim of the project was to detail the maritime heritage found in Fair Isle, Papa Stour and Out Skerries using field survey techniques on the islands and researching each of the islands within the Shetland Museum and Archives and the Shetland Library to give a fuller picture of the people who lived and worked there. This book only covers a small part of the interesting history Fair Isle, Papa Stour and Out Skerries have to offer but hopefully it will encourage you to find out more.

Following the success of the first book we published in 2o1o for Robert Johnson, Da Wye I Saa It, this is a delightful collection of photographs reminding everyone of Shetland not so distant but already perhaps fading from memory and all most certainly very different from life on the island today.

From the 1960’s through to the 2000’s readers will undoubtedly have memories restored that will stimulate reminiscences.

As the islands most prolific publisher of local books, we are glad to have helped show you a glimpse through the lens of Shetland’s social history. The book is available now from our bookshop https://shop.shetlandtimes.co.uk/products/aa-my-mindin

Printing service testimonial – “Excellent service, above and beyond, and offering really good value

Printing service testimonial – “Excellent service, above and beyond, and offering really good value too” – Tom Morton.

We worked with Tom to produce this information booklet for North Roe Primary school and Nort Energy to a very tight deadline and are delighted to hear that the booklet is selling well. Getting it ready to go on sale at the annual Shetland Craft Fair was the main aim and we hear the pupils did a great job promoting and selling their product.

This ring bound booklet, with protective cover, contains advice on how to get the best from your Polycrub and the cultivation projects grown within it. The text is accompanied by helpful photos and interviews with growers. The Polycrub was developed locally to withstand the harsh Shetland winter environment and provides sheltered, all year round growing potential for crofters and gardeners.

Welcome to the 38th Shetland Folk Festival…complete with tunes, laughs and some serious sleepless nights!!

We’ve completed the official programme and are excited to see such a great line up once again.

We thoroughly enjoy working with the Folk Festival each year to help them promote their event creating full colour flyers alongside newspaper and magazine and online/social media advertising. As we also print The Shetland Times newspaper every week, our coverage of the event alongside any videos we can capture for our news website, helps provide great all round coverage of the event that has become a staple in many a Shetlanders’, returning tourists’ and music fanatics’, yearly calendar.

Having so many visiting artistes and visitors to our islands join in the fun makes it all the more special. You’ll have a great time at this event and we hope you enjoy the programme and can make time to visit the supporting businesses who have advertised within the programme to help support this fantastic festival.
