Our Up-Helly-A’ production season starts in December every year and finishes in mid March when the final galley goes up in flames! We print programmes for festivals from the south mainland up to the north isles.

We would be glad to hear from any festival currently producing their own Up-Helly-A’ literature that would like us to help print their programme so please contact us and we can discuss the best format, materials and pagination to meet your needs and budget. Economical, smaller run quantities are all part of our service.

We enjoy producing programmes for events and festivals of all sizes, providing services from project management, design through to printing and finishing. All projects are completed on time to agreed production schedules at competitive rates to help promote and raise funds each event.

A great way to promote your organisation and help you market your goods and services all year round, is a calendar. They’re also an appreciated, useful corporate gift and can also be sold to raise funds, perhaps for your favourite charity.

We have an array of formats to choose from including:

  • Single leaf (12 months to view)
  • Desktop
  • Appointment style (148mm x 415mm)
  • Portrait or landscape with hanging wires (A4 / A3)
  • Booklet – (A4 folding out to A3 wire stitched in the centre)

There are also a variety design options for styling the dates (calendar blocks) and we have samples to help you decide which one suits your needs the best. Adding moon phases or unique and bespoke event dates that are relevant to your organisation or business sector can all be included.

Discuss your options with us today. We look forward to seeing you soon and getting your calendar ready in good time to allow you to get them distributed.

Welcome to the 38th Shetland Folk Festival…complete with tunes, laughs and some serious sleepless nights!!

We’ve completed the official programme and are excited to see such a great line up once again.

We thoroughly enjoy working with the Folk Festival each year to help them promote their event creating full colour flyers alongside newspaper and magazine and online/social media advertising. As we also print The Shetland Times newspaper every week, our coverage of the event alongside any videos we can capture for our news website, helps provide great all round coverage of the event that has become a staple in many a Shetlanders’, returning tourists’ and music fanatics’, yearly calendar.

Having so many visiting artistes and visitors to our islands join in the fun makes it all the more special. You’ll have a great time at this event and we hope you enjoy the programme and can make time to visit the supporting businesses who have advertised within the programme to help support this fantastic festival.

It’s time for our Summer Motoring leaflet! Having a few days of nice weather perhaps doesn’t justify calling it summer just yet but it’s easy to justify why readers should shop locally for all their motoring needs as our participating businesses have some great products and services on offer.

Get in touch with them and get great advice and deals.

Distributed as an insert in The Shetland Times newspaper throughout Shetland using our “town and country” option (8400 copies) all participating businesses get the added bonus of access to our 18,360 AIR readership figure (number of adults over the age of 15 in Shetland who read our title).

If you would like to get included  in the next Summer (or Winter) edition of this promotional leaflet give us a call on 01595 742000 or contact us at printing@shetlandtimes.co.uk. The leaflet provides excellent value for money to our clients as we split production and distribution cost equally between participating businesses which makes this a very attractive marketing option.

ADD PRINT, ADD POWER to your promotions.

There are as many benefits to print, perhaps the most important is tangibility and the fact readers have made a conscious decision to put time aside to read without any distractions. With all good publications there’s also a feeling of substance, of stimulating the senses, taking the reader further down the “path to purchase” – that’s always a good route!!

Customer Feedback: The initial leaflet was designed by us, printed in English only and proved very successful. Positive feedback from our customer and their consumer facilitated further editions being printed in German and Italian, establishing that this project continues to achieve its objectives.

Size: Usability was key to the choice of format and our 12pp, A5 fold out option allowed us to split the leaflet’s informative text into relevant sections whilst at the same time provide a large, easy to read location map.

Our Recommendation: 12pp, A5 fold out is a very flexible format and we suggest calling in to discuss design and layouts prior to starting your project.

Materials: 75% recycled, 150gsm silk was the preferred choice. Less reflective than gloss, this paper suited our client’s needs and the recycled element was chosen to emphasise their environmental credentials having achieved certification to the BS EN ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Standard in 2008.

Our Recommendation: Recycled papers benefit the environment and currently do not add significantly to the cost of production.

Printing: Full colour throughout – this allowed us to highlight key elements within the map artwork as well as accentuate the main information points and imagery within the leaflet.

Our Recommendation: Print this type of project in full colour as it provides a much better “reading experience” for the end user.

Finishing: The 12pp, A5 format provides a practical, storable and useable leaflet. It folds out to produce an A3 sheet which is easy to handle.

Our Top Tip:  Call us to discuss the most suitable layout and design that will provide maximum impact as well as promote your product/service and inform your clients BEFORE any work begins on the artwork.

Our pre-press department has the latest Agfa Galileo VXT Computer-To-Plate system (CTP) installed allowing us to deliver precise image quality in an energy efficient manner. This benefits our clients through the production of sharp, high impact imagery on all of their products.

The CTP system has eliminated the use of photographic film, allows the use of water-based chemicals in all our processes, incorporates a violet-laser imaging head (which lasts for up to seven years) and limits waste, which all helps us greatly reduce the environmental impact of this process.

Please see our pre-press plant list here for complete technical specifications of all our machinery.
